Rome, Georgia — Coming this fall, the United States Air Force Thunderbirds military jet demonstration squadron along with Country Music’s Recording Artist Travis Tritt will headline the 2016 Wings Over North Georgia air show & BBQ Classic festival weekend, taking place October 29-30 at Rome’s Russell Regional Airport.
The USAF Thunderbirds are internationally-known for their hard-charging demonstration of precision formation flying while pushing their F-16 Fighting Falcons to the limit. This is the second time that the Thunderbirds will appear at the Wings Over North Georgia air show. Known as “America’s Ambassadors in Blue”, the Thunderbirds have traveled throughout the world performing before millions of spectators. Their distinctive red, white and blue F-16 Falcon jets along with their precise routines make the Thunderbirds a must see at this year’s Wings Over North Georgia air show.
Local Georgian & Country Music’s Grammy Winning recording artist TRAVIS TRITT who hails from Marietta headlines the concert series on Saturday evening taking the stage at 7pm. “I feel so humbled and blessed to be where I am right now,” says Travis, who will release The Calm After…album on his own Post Oak Records. “My voice has never been stronger, I’m constantly playing and working to become a better guitar player, banjo player, vocalist and songwriter. I am honestly as excited about the creative process and performing now as I was the day I signed my first record deal.”
AEROBATIC PERFORMERS & TEAMS — include Michael Goulian (Goodyear-Whelen Extra 330SC), Patty Wagstaff (Extra 300S), Mike Wiskus (Lucas Oil Pitts S-1) and veteran Buck Roetman (Wild Horse Pitts S-2-S). The air show industry’s aerial comedian Kent Pietsch (Jelly Belly Jellybean Interstate Cadet) and Bob Carlon (Jet Sail Plane) are scheduled to perform each day. Parachute Jump Teams include: USSOCOM Para-Commando and Lucas Oil Skydivers. WWII Era Warbird Demos include Jim Tobul (F4U-4 Corsair) and Scott Yoak (P-51D Mustang) later performing together as theClass of 45, an act created right here in Rome. Viet-Nam era performances will include the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation 2-Ship Cobra Attack Helicopter Demo and fan favorite Bill Braack piloting the 8.5 second / 0-400mph Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car!
The weekend’s activities includes the fifth annual KCBS sanctioned Smoke-n-Thunder BBQ Classic “DOUBLE” competition hosting 80+ Cooking Teams chasing over $25,000 in cash, prizes and series points. There’s lots of family-friendly activities, aircraft static displays, exhibits, music and Saturday evening’s Fireworks Grand Finale.
